The taxi test is a driving assessment for potential taxi/private hire drivers. The test is carried out by trained DSA driving test examiners and lasts for about 35 to 40 mins. The safety and comfort of passengers is the basis for the test.
The car for the test must have a passenger side interior mirror, front seat head restraint and seat belts fitted for the examiner.
At the test centre your driving licence will be checked and photo ID must be produced. You will be asked t sign the test report form.
The drive requires smooth control with correct use of speed. Awareness and anticipation of other road users. Effective planning for varying road and traffic conditions. Controlled reversing manouvres and a special taxi manoeuvre to turn the car round.
As the test is carried out any driving faults will be recorded on the report form, the total driving must not exceed nine and there must of course not be any serious or dangerous faults recorded.
A high standard of driving is required as with any kind of vocational driving !
It is strongly advised to take some driver training before applying for the test.
